UChicago Biosciences graduate student Nazik Elmekki (Comstock Lab) has been selected as a 2024 Gilliam Fellow. Nazik is a PhD candidate in the microbiology graduate program, currently working on the protective mechanisms against stress in gut bacteroidales.
The Gilliam Fellowship was established by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) in honor of the late James H. Gilliam, Jr and rewards outstanding researchers who will "have an impact on science for generations to come," according to Blanton Tolbert, HHMI’s vice president of science leadership and culture.
